Due to the limited research on the comparison of writing styles between fashion bloggers and fashion journalists, this study attempts to understand the changing nature of fashion journalism by analyzing the differences and similarities between the two practices and how journalistic confines have shifted since the evolution of social media. The research employs both a quantitative and qualitative approach. A content analysis of 48 social media publications and 84 publications of six well-established trade and consumer publications identified factors that impact writing styles. The quantitative approach included interviews with three different types of practitioners in the fashion media scene. Key findings that emerged from the content analysis and the interviews included that fashion bloggers adhere to the values of public service, autonomy, and immediacy. The results showed that they fail to adhere to the value of objectivity and ethics and that journalists cannot be fully replaced by fashion blogging. Their co-existence responds to the different needs of audiences.
