The Protection of Beijing Courtyard Houses Based on Virtual Reality Technology

The Beijing courtyard houses, representative of Beijing's ancient dwellings, are at the edge of disappearing. Traditional protection methods are unsustainable because of the extremely high cost. Consequently, the Beijing courtyard houses will completely disappear in the foreseeable future. Virtual reality technology is a simulation technology that integrates three-dimensional modeling technology, computer graphic technology, and sensing technology. Even if Beijing courtyard houses would completely disappear someday, future generations can still be aware of their past existence by learning through digitized information. Through a VR application, this Major Research Project aims to explore the possibility of using virtual reality technology to realize the digital protection of ancient architecture.
