Sustainable Fashion in the Digital Age: How the Future of Fashion can Benefit from Social Media
Today, an estimated 4.76 billion people use social media (Global Social Media Statistics, n.d.). Though social media started as a means to connect people, such platforms have since become extremely influential tools in today's society. As climate change increasingly becomes an issue, this study examines how the power of social media can be used to enact positive change, particularly within the fashion industry. This exploratory research identifies the most sustainable ways to participate in fashion, followed by an analysis of the ways in which social media can be used to effectively promote sustainable practices and mindsets in fashion. This is done by examining the social media presence of three sustainable brands, and then applying their approaches to my own content, allowing me to observe their respective impacts firsthand. The findings from this research contribute to knowledge regarding how social media can be used to encourage a sustainable system.
