Opportunities have recently surfaced for non-vegetated assemblies, commonly known as blue roofs, to serve as stormwater management strategies. These assemblies manage water through detention – temporarily holding water and slowly releasing it in its intended paths. However, as a relatively new strategy, there are not many guidelines on the different blue roof assemblies. This thesis categorizes the different types of blue roof assemblies and presents a strategy to quantify and analyze the performance of the different assemblies, to facilitate the establishment of performance-based guidelines on this stormwater management strategy. Simulations of the assemblies are performed in Excel, and performances are analyzed based on peak flow reduction, lag time, and drain time after the event.
