Ontario Place - Yours To Discover?
In 2019, the Province of Ontario announced plans to revitalize Ontario Place, with further updates outlining a proposal to develop a spa and wellness centre on the lands, amongst other additions and improvements. An examination of associated planning policies and plans, site history, current revitalization plans and issues facing the revitalization plans yields a major threat towards Torontonians' ability to easily access free public space. The purpose of this Major Research Paper is to explore the public debate facing Ontario Place and devise a set of recommendations, based on policy, site history and precedent developments in Brisbane, Australia and Chicago, USA, that seeks to address issues related to programmatic elements, vision and overall site governance.
