Municipal Service Delivery in Brampton: Identifying Health and Social Vulnerabilities for Immigrant Multigenerational Households in a Post-Pandemic Society
This research explores how Brampton's current municipal service delivery model impacts immigrant multigenerational households and how these public services can improve to better accommodate this growing household demographic. Interviews were conducted with professionals and representatives from several public service divisions, including healthcare, childcare, seniors services, community services, and housing. The interviews resulted in five key findings: 1) Funding gaps, 2) Misaligned housing arrangements, 3) Language & cultural barriers, 4) Technological barriers & enablers, and 5) The importance of community-centred care. These findings led to several recommendations that the City of Brampton may consider for their public service delivery planning and programming, including: 1) The need for transparency, 2) The need for diverse representation, 3) The need for community engagement, and 4) The need for multigenerational housing development.
