This report presents a study on the environmental sustainability of an existing office and administration building in Wiesbaden, Germany. The research conducts a comparative Life Cycle Analysis between the building’s original hybrid system and solely concrete made structural system counterpart. The primary objective of this study is to assess the sustainability aspects of both options and identify the more Eco-conscious and resilient choice. The investigation begins with examination of the provided design documents for the original design, leading to the formulation of the concrete building as the alternative design case. Finite Element analysis is used to analyse a detailed 3D model of the alternative design case. Subsequently, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) with a focus on Global Warming Potential (GWP) is employed to compare the sustainability of the two designs. Following the analysis, it was shown that the hybrid structural system emerges as the superior choice with reduced GWP.

Keywords: Construction, Concrete Design, Timber Design, Finite Element Analysis, Life Cycle Analysis, Sustainability, Global Warming Potential
