Investigation of Flammability in Multilayer Polymeric Films
The approach of this project is to build multilayer plastics that can withstand burning. Plastic samples made by hot-pressing are an alternative to multilayer coextrusion and an alternative to plastics with additives. UL 94 flame test is run to determine the resistance of the samples to burning. Parameters describing the burning of the samples are defined accordingly. The results of this project are compared with the results of another paper. Firstly, it is compared with multilayer polymer samples made by multilayer coextrusion; then, it is compared with melt-blended polymer samples with 2 wt.% PTFE. Results of this project indicate that in the case of hot-pressed samples, increasing the number of layers increases the resistivity of plastic samples to burning.
