Evolution of Navigation Displays for Urban Air Mobility Vehicles
Throughout this report, studies have been conducted to explore the ways in which aviation navigation displays can be modified to ease the operation of UAM vehicles, more specifically in dense urban environments. The granularity of the data displayed to vehicle operators has been studied to determine what is necessary for optimum UAM vehicle movement. Discussion of the applicability in today’s relevant certification standards has also take place as a pathway towards integration in future production vehicles. Heavy emphasis has been placed on the enhanced detection of obstacles and terrain within the proximity of the vehicle. Serving as an enhancement and not a replacement, said detection capabilities have the potential to become part of current navigation display architectures.
