Cataloguing and Rehousing Storage Locker Films at Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre
This thesis is an applied cataloguing project for Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre. CFMDC withdrew many films from their collection, but they were not properly processed, remaining in a storage locker for years. This project aims to identify, catalogue, and rehouse these films. The objective of this applied project is to catalogue the films from the storage locker while also conducting research on deaccessioning films and providing preservation and housing recommendations for CFMDC. This thesis is divided into four chapters: the first chapter gives an introduction to CFMDC and explores how the films came to be in the storage locker. The second chapter offers a brief introduction to 35mm and 16mm films in general and summarizes the scholarship on film cataloguing and deaccessioning films. Chapter three provides the details of the catalogue processing. Chapter four develops a strategy for deaccessioning films for CFMDC and offers recommendations for preserving and housing the films.
