Assessing Economic Feasibility of Creator Coins
With the recent growth of the web3 space, digital media has seen developments across multiple subs-verticals. While we have seen Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and Non-fungible Tokens (NFTs) rise to prominence, the next trend seems to be that of social tokens--which are tokens issued by individual influencers, creators or communities that enable community members to share ownership in the value created together. This research assesses the technical and economic feasibility of creator coins to incentivize and monetize digital content creation as an additional income stream for creators. Based on the feasibility and cost-benefit analyses, this study demonstrates that experimenting with creator coins is feasible and a net positive outcome for creators. The ICO analysis reveals reasons skewed distribution and this paper outlines lessons that can be learnt to maximize the possibility of a successful long-term trajectory of creator coins. It further outlines possible areas of research to bring about development in the social token space.
