An Architecture of Body and Prosthetics
The contemporary discourse of the physical analog body in relation to architecture generates space that is frequently static in nature. This thesis asserts that the boundaries of one’s body extends far beyond its analog limits. A body at any given time deploys the use of numerous prosthetics to engage with the space it occupies.
An Architecture of Body and Prosthetics generates a discourse of architectural space that explores the body’s operation in relation to its system of analog and digital prosthetics. Through the implementation of prosthetics, architecture space shifts from presented to experienced, and generates a relational condition between body and space. This framework engenders an architecture that prioritizes the formal relations between body, prosthetic, and space, rather than the object within architecture. These ideas are explored through the library, which is reconceptualized as the collection of situational and momentary engagements between body, prosthetic, and space.
