A Mixture of Authoritative & Participative Leadership Styles: Recommendations to Achieve a Positive Workplace Environment
The leadership style that a leader uses in a workplace drastically contributes to the formation, or lack thereof, of a positive workplace environment. This MRP looks at how authoritarian leadership and participative leadership styles contribute to developing a positive workplace environment. This is described as having a healthy relationship between the leader and the employee, having positive employee emotional well-being, and having high employee engagement and employee creativity in the workplace. My findings show that a mixture of both authoritarian and participative leadership styles can be optimal in creating a positive workplace environment and can be dependent on the employee's perspectives of the leadership styles themselves. I provide recommendations to leaders who are looking to foster a positive workplace environment for their team.
