chapter
posted on 2024-03-21, 18:59 authored by Simone Falk, Ramona Schreier, Frank RussoFrank Russo

Witnessing a person who stutters sing can be fascinating: suddenly stuttering seems to completely disappear. The fluency-enhancing effect of singing incites researchers to investigate the mechanisms leading to this remarkable reduction of stuttering symptoms. However, no explanation can yet fully account for this phenomenon. In this chapter, we review the evidence collected so far and discuss future avenues of research and the potential for therapeutic applications.
