Resisting the Resurgence of White Supremacy
[para. 1]: " Of the many crisis-level issues facing world leaders today, none seems to have received the amount of attention as the purported problem of “others.” French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech to the G- 20 summit several months after his election in May 2017 that highlighted his specific concerns about Africa: “The challenge of Africa, it is totally different, it is much deeper, it is civilizational today” (Wildman 2017 ). Macron went on to explain that “when countries still have seven to eight children per woman – you can decide to spend billions of euros, you will not stabilize anything” (Wildman 2017 ). President Donald Trump, elected only a few months before Macron, also shared his concerns about Africa, specifically immigration from Haitian and African countries: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” (Dawsey 2018 ). Trump, instead, prefers immigration from countries like Norway (Dawsey 2018 ). Trump’s solution for preventing the immigration of Mexicans, who he claimed were “bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists” (Kopan 2016 ) is to build a giant wall on their shared border."
